Dr. Heidi Fast is University Lecturer in Art Education at the Aalto University, Finland, and vocal artist working with socially situated and ethically attuned art practice in the field of contemporary art and musical performance. Her artistic research focuses on the role of the bodily and affective experiences in human and nonhuman communion. Fast´s doctoral research examined the transformational potential of non-verbal affective communication. The research used the process of artistic research to develop a method for non-verbal vocal encountering for situations when verbal communication breaks down. In co-operation with the psychiatric healthcare in Helsinki, Finland, it investigated how the human voice can mediate non-verbal interaction and vitalize the experience of existence by creating a shared resonance sphere. The themes of Fast´s research are immediately connected with art working, often in the form of wide series of artworks, for example "Hospital Symphonies" –series (2015–2019). Her works have been showed in Finland and internationally. Also, enhancing the convergence between art and science is central to Fast´s work.
