About this exposition

The aim of this research is to analyse Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire and the works composed during the 20th and 21st century with the same instrumentation in order to observe whether or not there is an evolution in the use of the ensemble model proposed by Schoenberg. In case there has been such an evolution, we will observe to what extent Schoenberg's influence reaches or if it is detached at some point. Finally, it is important to note that we will pay special attention to the clarinet as part of the ensemble. First, we will approach the Pierrot Lunaire, commenting on its instrumentation, its background and the impact it had both in Europe and in the United States. To observe the evolution of this ensemble I will select different works. These will serve as pillars that I will analyse and compare in order to have a linear perspective of the evolution. To conclude the research, I propose the creation of a work together with a young composer. The aim is to create a short work as a point of arrival in the evolution of the ensemble throughout the 20th century
