Costumes (last edited: 2025)

About this exposition

Metaphorically, wearing a dress could be equivalent to living in a city. In both cases, a space created on a human scale is occupied, excluding the rest. Spontaneous vegetation moves among the ruins undisturbed, slowly so as not to be noticed. Meanwhile, the city grows, plants, transplants, and prunes the vegetation, leaving an indelible mark on the form. The silhouettes of the pruned plants, twisted and unnatural, resemble anthropomorphic figures and leave a hint of suspicion. If the space occupied by the vegetation were the space of a dress, they would not be pruned. If the anthropomorphic plants were disguises, they would not be cut down. The "Costumes" series consists of disguise costumes created from the silhouettes of plants seen in urban centers. The costumes are shaped in such a way that other life forms cannot wear them. The works are installed in the space according to the characteristics of the individual costume, and consequently, of the individual plant.
