Viktoria Volkova was born, grew up and completed her studies in Moscow. She studied German, Linguistics, Pedagogics and Psychology at Moscow State Linguistic University. Her early interest for theatre refers to the school period when she participated in theatre performances, which were part of educational program of her maternal school. Above her main studies, she also attended a theatre course in Michael Chekhov’s Acting Technique in Moscow. That was an impulse for her to investigate the concealed potential of improvisation in her postgraduate phase.

Ph.D. in theatre studies at Free University of Berlin (2016). Her investigation material was rehearsals at famous theatres in Berlin such as the Hebbel am Ufer, the Deutsches Theater Berlin, the Berliner Ensemble, the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz. Dissertation published by the Berlin based publisher Theater der Zeit in December 2019.

Her current research interests include rehearsal studies, rehearsal methodology, stage improvisation, social emotions, rituals, director's theatre, directing, acting techniques, performative theories, theatre history, school theatre, theatre pedagogy, ethnological and anthropological methods of research.
