Ives Maes (°1976, Hasselt, Belgium) is a multidisciplinary visual artist who lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium. He studied sculpture at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent and a post-graduate program at HISK in Antwerp. In 2008 he was a resident at Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin. From 2012 to 2018 Ives Maes was working on a Ph.D. in the Arts at the University Ghent / KASK School of Arts about the physical, sculptural and architectural aspects of photography.

 

Ives Maes has had institutional solo exhibitions in, among others, Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens, SMAK Museum, MuHKA Museum, Uqbar Berlin, VOID+ Tokyo, Z33 Art Center, STAM City Museum Ghent and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City. His works had been part of group exhibitions at the Prada Foundation Milan, Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco, Museum Angewandte Kunst Frankfurt, the Museo de arte Carillo y Gil in Mexico City, Antwerp Photo Museum, Ludwig Forum Aachen, BOZAR Brussels, the National Museum in Beijing and the 6th Moscow Biennial. His books are published by Mer Paper Kunsthalle and Ludion. He is represented by Sofie Van De Velde Gallery in Antwerp.
