The Qadiri Boutchichi Tarika
The Qadiri Boutchichi Order is a Sufi order spread in Morocco and one of the global Qadiri orders established by Sheikh Abdul Qadir al-Jilani in the 12th century. The order is known for its use of remembrance (dhikr) and Sufi listening (sama') as means to approach God and build the spiritual self. The historical roots of the Boutchichi order go back to the days of Sheikh Sidi Ali bin Muhammad, who was also known as "Sidi Ali Boutchichi" and lived in the 18th century. The order was established in the Berkane region of eastern Morocco, where the Boutchichi zawiya remains an important spiritual centre.
The Boutchichi order is a branch of the Qadiri order but has incorporated some of its rituals and practices, including "hadra" and Sufi listening, that have become defining characteristics of its presence.
