Walls as projection screens

The squash annex is a double-height space with two squash courts and two racquetball courts. We positioned four speakers throughout the annex, one in each room.

The audience gallery on the first floor (see picture on the right) stretches between all courts, with a separate sitting area for each one. In PLAY, the performers used all courts to create different sonic situations, but the audience was seated only in the areas facing the squash courts. The other spaces were visible through a live feed projected onto the courts, captured by a single camera moving between spaces (operated by Richard O’Sullivan). Both projections used the same live feed.

In the project, the audience was split into two groups at random.
