Dr. Terhi Marttila holds a PhD in digital media (University of Porto) and an MA and BA in art education (University of Lapland). She is a postdoctoral fellow (2023-2026) in the eGames lab research project, and an integrated member at the Interactive Technologies Institute (ITI/LARSyS) in Lisbon, Portugal. She is an invited assistant professor (2025) at the school of applied arts at the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco, where she teaches practice-based research methods and techniques for MA students in digital media.
Terhi's research approach is practice-based, and she meanderes through topics that spark her attention, creating digital works that usually live in the browser and come together through and as voice, interaction and play. Her medium is mostly writing, playful and meaningful interaction, voice and sound recording and her chosen tools are web programming (HTML, CSS and Javascript) although she has recently employed Godot as well. Her work has been shared, published and archived in the Electronic Literature Collection 4, ISEA, ICIDS, ELO, The New River, Taper#11, nokturno.fi and raum.pt, among others.
