Julia Kursell

Julia Kursell is professor and chair of the Institute of Musicology at the University of Amsterdam. From 2004 to 2011, she worked as a research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin. She is the author of "Sound art: a literary history of music in the early Russian avant-garde (Vienna and Munich 2003, in German) and editor of the journal issues "Immersed. Sound and Architecture" (OASE, with Pnina Avidar and Raviv Ganchrow) and "Music Sound, and the Laboratory from 1750-1980" (Osiris, with Alexandra Hui and Myles Jackson) and has published, among others, on technology in 20th-century composition and the histories of auditory physiology and psychology in journals such as Configurations and Grey Room. She is founding editor of the journal History of Humanities and co-director of the Vossius Center for the History of Humanities and Sciences in Amsterdam.
