Andrew Brooks

Andrew Brooks is an artist, writer, researcher and teacher whose work takes the form of installations, video and sound work, texts and talks. He completed a PhD at UNSW Art and Design on the aesthetics and politics of interruption. His research interests include: critical race studies, decoloniality, gender and sexuality, poetry and poetics, contemporary aesthetics, media studies, sound studies, and noise studies. Recent work has focused on the ways that bodies are regulated, mediated and disciplined in contemporary life and how bodies can be understood and inhabited differently. 

 

His work has been presented at Artspace, the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), the TarraWarra Biennial, the Biennale of Sydney, Liquid Architecture, Alaska Projects, the NOW now Festival, and Firstdraft and he is a 2018 Artspace studio resident. He was a co-director of Firstdraft Gallery (2015-16) and a co-curator of the NOW now Festival (2012-14). Along with Astrid Lorange, he is one-half of the critical art collective, Snack Syndicate.
