About this exposition

In Provenir del porvenir Urbano hovers through the fields of sociology, archaeology and philosophy while reflecting on the different mediations of the work: the guided tour, the performance lecture and the video essay. The exposition is based on a speculative artistic-historiographic project where the artist, in the context and aesthetics of the Museum of History, connects her own genealogy with the North. The investigation is a response to recurrent question to people of color living in Scandinavia: “Where do you come from?” This question leads to an epistemological enquire, discussing the limits of knowledge production on a scientific basis versus knowledge production on an artistic basis.

I Provenir del porvenir svävar Urbano genom områdena sociologi, arkeologi och filosofi medan hon reflekterar över verkets olika medier: den guidade turen, performance-föreläsningen och videoessän. Expositionen bygger på ett spekulativt konstnärligt-historiografiskt projekt där konstnären i Historiska museets sammanhang och estetik kopplar ihop sin egen släktforskning med Norden. Utredningen är ett svar på en återkommande fråga till icke vita personer som bor i Skandinavien: "Var kommer du ifrån?" Denna fråga leder till en kunskapsteoretisk undersökning som diskuterar gränserna för kunskapande på vetenskaplig kontra konstnärlig grund.

En Provenir del Porvenir Urbano se cierne entre los campos de la sociología, arqueología y filosofía mientras reflexiona sobre las diferentes versiones de la obra: la visita guiada, la conferencia y el video ensayo. La exposición consiste en un proyecto artístico, historiográfico y especulativo donde la artista en el contexto y la estética del museo histórico enlaza su genealogía con Escandinavia. La investigación es una respuesta a la pregunta recurrente a las personas no blancas que residen en Escandinavia: De donde eres? Esta pregunta conduce a una indagación epistemológica que discute los límites de la producción de conocimiento sobre una base científica frente una base artística.
