Professional Doctorate in Arts + Creative is an educational pilot program in The Netherlands for an advanced degree in universities of applied sciences. The PD program at an university of applied sciences is developed to train an investigative professional. This portal is a platform for publishing artistic research generated by the PD candidates. Within the Professional Doctorate program, this portal will also be used as an internal tool for documentation.

Calling Songs is a research into the possibilities of using the sounds created by insect and frog choirs in a musical composition/soundscape. An 8-channel speaker system was developed for this purpose, able to stand outside conditions and fitting into a natural environment. The voices of crickets and frogs have characteristics that make them sound almost electronic and therefore blend surprisingly well with the sounds that the muiscians of Zwerm can produce using effectpedals, loop-feedback, modular synthesizers and occasionally a guitar. The listener is invited to question the idea of culture versus nature. For the performers, the central question is how to give non-human life a voice in our artistic practice. An analitical overview over some key works from Stravinsky with the goal of selecting few elements that can help my compositional journey.

After a long-term effort with “the body as an instrument” with the spotlight and focus on acting I was interested in exploring how my experience and practical knowledge of the actors physical skills could be “borrowed” and “translated” in encounters with several artistic disciplines both within and outside the stage area. The body is present in all artistic activity that in some way relates to the story of man. But the thought of the body isn't necessarily the same as a bodily and embodied thought. This nuanced and problematized approach has resulted in the research project Bodily Observations - on the lookout for new physical skills that I conducted in 2013-2015.
