Abstract

Research on the ethics of algorithms has grown substantially over the past decade. Alongside the exponential development and application of machine learning algorithms, new ethical problems and solutions relating to their ubiquitous use in soci-ety have been proposed. This article builds on a review of the ethics of algorithms published in 2016 (Mittelstadt et al. Big Data Soc 3(2), 2016). The goals are to contribute to the debate on the identification and analysis of the ethical implications of algorithms, to provide an updated analysis of epistemic and normative concerns, and to offer actionable guidance for the governance of the design, development and deployment of algorithms.

Daring an Invertebrate Perspective on Immunology: Taxonomic Bias, Multiple Realization, and Individuality

Abstract:

In recent years, the philosophy of immunology has become a major area of interest within the philosophy of science. Philosophers of immunology cover a wide range of topics, including cancer biology, individuality, and symbiosis. While the philosophy of immunology aims at providing a philosophy of all immune systems, most, if not all current accounts focus on the particularities of mammalian immune systems. This can partly be explained by the epistemic and material conditions of philosophy of immunology’s target discipline – immunology – which to a large extent also prioritizes mammalian immune systems. The pragmatic reasons for this focus – most immunologists aim at understanding, treating, and curing human diseases – do however not automatically justify its epistemic consequences. In this talk, I will provide an alternative perspective, introducing an invertebrate immune system to challenge some preconceived notions about the immune system. I will question the conceptual distinction between biotic and abiotic triggers in immunology, the notion that only jawed vertebrates display a fully realized adaptive immune system, and the strong dichotomy between physiological and evolutionary individuality. I will conclude by summarizing how an “outsider-organism” perspective can help eliminate epistemic biases in immunology.

My personal view is basically driving the philosophy of science. But I am not a progressive. My second line in artistic research is in science epistemologically*.

*Digital photography is a new medium since the 21st century, there is no philosophy of digital photography yet, which is progressive. Here through AI analysis is in painting. In biology, an organism is any organic, living system that functions as an individual entity. All organisms are composed of cells. Organisms are classified by taxonomy into groups such as multicellular animals, plants, and fungi; or unicellular microorganisms such as protists, bacteria, and archaea.

An example of an epistemological response in everyday life:

A woman suffering from irregular menstruation (irregular menstruation is not diagnosed as a disease) is subject to blood tests and other tests for illnesses such as uterine cancer at the doctor's discretion at the hospital. But when it comes to life and the environment, she only knows herself. Measure and fill in body temperature, weight, blood pressure, and pulse at regular times every day. Then, make a note of the daily schedule and keep a diary, etc., and continue for more than half a year. That is epistemological awareness for milieu and own body in everyday life and privacy.

The story consists of the cognition of individuals for their experiences, which is not a collection of individual opinions. My aim is for a soundtrack as a sound composition that is logical and unlogic of time, space and body through the individual cognitions in the languages.


Practical question is, for example, the collection of individual stories in social media, is it evidence of our society or democratic collective opinion? How does AI collect individual information and how does AI recognize morphologically? and how do we recognize and systematize those individual pieces of information?

Nonsense art, hereby I define that an artistic method which is based on the logic of natural facts through epistemological natural-scientific investigations, and which is transformed into literary logic in words. Thereby, the phenomenon that can occur is the gaps between Rhetoric and Nonsense in the arts, such as contradiction, paradox, not only at the logical level, maybe also at the emotional level and so forth. In doing so, at the epistemological level psychologically, one starts to deal with topics and recognise the nature, its dynamics in sense.
