1. Echo Patterns

Description:

The teacher sings or plays short melodic patterns, and students echo them back.

Variations:

  • Singing patterns in “nanana” and playing
  • Singing patterns with lyrics and playing
  • Just playing patterns with the instrument
  • Singing patterns with ABC and playing
  • Singing patterns with sol-fa and playing
  • Playing a drone note (as a support): to feel the tonal colour of each note, as well as the sensation of consonance-dissonance.
  • Transposing echo patterns

Purpose:

Reinforcing pitch recognition and rhythm memory. It is interesting to establish a working map (a collection of notes) beforehand, in order to develop tonal awareness. It is also important to relate this musical material to a piece of music that is being worked on in order to make it more significant.
