Human-thing relations

PPP

"On its way, an object has met all kinds of conditions, events, and circumstances and you and I as users or owners are just passangers, temporally connected to the object in such moments. We tend to isolate objects in time, but in reality, the life of an object is continuous; it does not start or stop with a new owner."

-Pieter Paul Pothoven

Interviewer to PPP: "In both projects Limen and A New Sun the two mirrors display layers in time of how humans relate to their world, and in the Lapis Lazuli project you investigate how the spatial context influences the conception lapis lazuli as a stone and ultramarine as a pigment. It seems that these two axes, temporal and spatial, are the axes on which you investigate how objects mediate human-world relations. Lapis Lazuli also visualizes the trajectory that an object has taken outside itself."

[the stones are literally taken out of the earth as raw materials in one part of the world and acquire a whole new dimension on another part of the world, but the trajectory that it has taken is also part of the material.]

Extention: instrumentality

- intential humans, neutral things

Dialects: tension

- oppression and resistence

Hybridity: boundry blurring

- mutual shaping

Things mediate the relation between humans and their  environment.

Things = media

Human  - Thing - World

Very first notes of thoughts and interests:

Human touch on objects.

Influence human on objects.

Relations between human and objects.

Humans leaves marks on all objects.

e.g; seats on metro's, you can see human posture; where the shoulderblades touch, shape of one's butt.

It says something about humans as well as objects, the materials, evolution, transience, modern human posture, zeitgeist.

Aanraking van de mens op objecten maakt het object levend.

Touch from human on objects makes the object alive somehow.

Notes:
