In between real and fictional spaces

Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences, The Norwegian Film School

“In between real and fictional spaces” is an interdisciplinary research project which emphasizes the way sound can portray both real and fictional spaces and the gap in between. It will explore both narrative and non-narrative experiences in the landscape between film sound and sound arts, documentary and drama.

In the project, I record and create spaces with sound and observe how the work can change or extend our perception of place, space, time and memory.

Therese Næss Diesen is a sound designer and an artistic research fellow at The Norwegian Film School at The Inland University of Applied Sciences. She has worked with recording, foley and sound design on short films, feature films and documentaries and has a BA in film sound and an MA in audiovisual design from The Norwegian Film School. The last years she has expanded her work areas to include performing arts, installation art and other media such as sound drama and extended reality.

The presentation will be an introduction to the research project. It will focus on how my work is placed in between film sound and sound arts, documentary and drama, and reflect on what that means. I will show some extracts and documentation of the latest work and experiments.
