Do you hear me now? Expressions of maternal experience through autoethnography and the bodily embodiment of clay (working title)

Rooted in an autoethnographic approach, Corrina Thornton´s project "Do you hear me now? Expressions of maternal experience through autoethnography and the bodily embodiment of clay (working title)" draws from personal experience to examine postnatal depression, trauma, and the complex dynamics of maternal empowerment and disempowerment. Through participatory projects and personal works, she uses the tactile and transformative nature of clay to embody and process lived experience and invite collective reflection.

Grounded in an active and practical empathy, collaboration, and material inquiry, Thornton’s practice transforms personal narratives into shared spaces of connection — using art as a means to speak, heal, and reimagine what care can look like.

Corrina Thornton is a British artist working primarily with clay to explore motherhood, mental health, and care.

Born in Wales, UK, and based in Norway for many years, Thornton’s perspective is being shaped by the intersections of culture, care, and community. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Ceramics Biennale Korea, the National Museum in Oslo, and KODE in Bergen. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Ceramics from Bath Spa University and a Master’s in Fine Art from KHiB (Bergen Academy of Art and Design).
