Animalium

In May 2019 Teater Fot investigated new artistic ideas through film and improvisation.
We worked with a group of actors improvising on simple exercises of group behaviour, call & response, mirroring and affective attunement.
The work was connected with Neither Fish nor Fowl through the undefined characters of the performers, taking them out of the performance space.
Animalium would be open and flexible towards different spaces, audiences and participants and was developed as an improvised performance concept, as a site specific stunt and a workshop suited for performers and people who work with children´s theatre and art.

During 2020, 21 and 22 Animalium visited art exhibitions, libraries and kindergartens alike. We continue to investigate the more-than-human affects of performing arts for children, trying to decenter the human individual actor.

Animalium at Avstand is documenting Animalium visiting the exhibition Avstand by Sverre Koren Bjertnæs at Kunsthall Trondheim during the pandemic, June 5.th. 2021, at the Lydhør Research Festival.

The children were allowed to peek in through the windows, while the dancers and musicians moved inside. The film is following the artists through the exhibition, where the great paintings and Bjertnæs´ vibrant colours is overwhelming the Animalium flock.

Animalium Stunt is based on the same improvisation concept as described above, but performed by the Teater Fot Company. The happening will pop up like a surprise-stunt in public spaces like art galleries, exhibitions or at festivals, both in its own right as a performance, but also in between other events.

In 2019 Lise wrote an article for VIS Nordic Journal for Artistic ResearchAnimalium Vis (2019) presented on the Research Catalogue platform. The exhibition presents the ideas and theories of the project within a visual RC framework.

Animalium Workshop

Through playing and improvisation exercises the workshop participants create a collective non-verbal language of sound and movements and develop into a flock of odd animals. The final session of the workshop is moving into public space where the flock (or flocks) of animals improvise with each other, materials, objects and possibly children who want to participate. The workshop becomes a happening or stunt in the festival area. The workshop is designed for festival goers, kindergarten teachers, art-students or other people who are interested in the topics of exploring play, sound, movement, shape, composition and communication with young children. The workshop is led by Lise Hovik, possibly accompanied by other members of the company.

Animalium Performance is a 20-30 minutes interactive performance, taking place on a stage in a theatre or gallery space, or in a public space with young children audience. The human animal characters will improvise through the performance space, acting together with the art installations, or the architecture of the site. The performance is designed as an immersive experience of sound and movement, in which the children (and adults) can participate in their own way.

Animalium met groups of kindergarten kids in the gallery, and in the evening Lise gave a speech on ecological perspectives of performing arts for children:

Økologiske perspektiver i forholdet mellom mennesker, dyr og våre fysiske omgivelser.
