Voiko puita puhutella?
Kysymys on sekä periaatteellinen että käytännöllinen. Puiden kanssa puheleminen ei ole ongelma taiteen kontekstissa, päinvastoin äänen antaminen muille kuin ihmisille on ollut kirjailijoiden itselleen asettama tehtävä Calvinosta Amitav Ghoshiin. Näyttämöllä kaikenlaisia olentoja on esitetty ja inhimillistetty kautta aikojen. Mutta entä jos emme vain leikittele ajatuksella, vaan asetamme Robin Wall Kimmererin tapaan jonkinlaisen todellisen vastavuoroisuuden vaatimuksen suhteessamme puihin. Miten sellainen ihminen, jolla on poikkeuksellinen kyky aistia puiden viestintää, kokee sen, että minä leikittelen puhuttelemalla puita? Missä vaiheessa leikittely muuttuu loukkaavaksi? Alustuksessani en yritä ratkaista tätä ongelmaa, vaan yritän virittää keskustelua kertomalla hiukan podcast kokeiluistani, Talking with Trees tai Puhetta puille...
The question is one of pinciple as well as practical. Chatting with trees is not a problem in the context of art. On the contrary, giving voice to other than humans has been a task that authors from Calvino to Amitav Ghosh have set themselves. On stage all kinds of creatures have been represented and antropomorphised thorugh the ages. What if we do not only play with the idea, but like Robin Wall Kimmerer demand some sort of reciprocity in our relationship to trees? How does a person who has the exceptional capacity to sense the communication of trees regard my simply playing at adressing trees? At what stage does playfullness become offensive? In my presentation I am not trying to solve this problem, but rather to inspire conversation by telling about my experiments with the podcast Talking with Trees...
